Home Stays
As part of the WJC efforts to immerse journalism students in Washington, D.C., students have the privilege of living with local families. The host families are carefully screened and chosen for their commitments to the Christian faith as well as their connections to their churches, neighborhoods and communities. WJC strives for a collection of theologically, racially and economically diverse host families to provide as robust a "picture" of Washington as possible for our students. Host families help students move beyond a tourist mentality and avoid becoming fixated on the powerful, man-made symbols rather than meeting the women and men who inhabit the city.

Service Learning
The program staff works to select unpaid work/service opportunities during the beginning and end of each semester to expose students to the many sides of Washington, D.C. WJC students may spend up to 40 hours each semester assisting on Habitat for Humanity projects, day-care centers, homeless shelters and other sites around the city. The WJC staff monitors student work and visits project sites.
